d. Root cap . Root Cap. There are some cells proximal to the meristematic zone which enlarges rapidly and refers as “Zone of elongation”. All three zones are in the first centimeter or so of the root tip. Beginning at the first root hair is the zone of cell maturation where the root cells begin to differentiate into special cell types. (c) Zone of elongation: It is about 1-10 mm long and lies just behind the meristematic zone. Typical roots contain three different sections, or zones: the meristematic zone, the zone of elongation, and the zone of differentiation.

Root meristem adds cells to root cap and the basal region of the root. The 3 root regions that constitute the ROOT TIP.

In the meristematic zone, named after the apical meristem, the plant cells undergo rapid mitotic division, creating new cells for root growth. This zone increases length of the root.

Elongation Zone: Cells in this stage are rapidly elongating and parts of the phloem system (sieve tubes) start to develop.

[4] They are found only in the zone of maturation, and not the zone of elongation, possibly because any root hairs that arise are sheared off as the root elongates and moves through the soil.

The xylem system is seen to develop in this zone along with lateral root development. The root tip has three main zones: a zone of cell division (cells are actively dividing), a zone of elongation (cells increase in length), and a zone of maturation (cells differentiate to form different kinds of cells).

The zone of cell division is closest to the root tip; it is made up of the actively dividing cells of the root meristem. c. Zone of lateral root emergence .

The cells in the elongation zone extend the root length.

This terminology implies that as soon as a cell leaves the apical meristem, it is part of the elongation zone.

We used a video digitizer system to (a) measure changes in the pattern of longitudinal surface extension in primary roots of maize (Zea mays L.) upon application and withdrawal of auxin and (b) compare these patterns during gravitropism in control roots and roots pretreated with auxin.

Meristematic Zone: Right above the root cap and contains the "stem cells" of the plant. When describing zones of development in roots, it is typical to include the cap, the apical meristem, the cell elongation zone, and the maturation zone. Root hair cells are outgrowths at a tip of the plant's roots. The first two are compacted in the first centimeter or less of the axis with the latter two no more than 4–5 centimeters from the tip.

The growing root tip is protected by a root cap. Root hair cells vary between 15 and 17 micrometres in diameter, and 80 to 1,500 micrometres in length.

The external cells can absorb water and minerals from the soil.

The boundary between dividing and elongating cells is called the transition zone. e.Zone of maturation. The 'tip' of the root, made up of a mass of parenchyma cells. These regions, starting at the tip and moving upwards towards the stem, are the root cap, zone of active cell division, zone of cell elongation, and zone of maturation.
